Policy
Environmental Policy
1.Our Environmental Commitment
Reborn exists to make returning and recovering packaging simple, measurable, and scalable. We recognise that while our machines enable higher-quality recycling, we must also reduce the environmental impacts of how we design, build, deploy, service and eventually retire our equipment.
We commit to:
- Comply with all applicable environmental laws and requirements wherever we operate
- Prevent pollution and minimise waste from our own activities
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy use across operations and service delivery
- Design products and operations around durability, repairability, modular upgrades and end-of-life recovery
- Measure our impacts and improve performance over time through targets and reporting
2.Scope
This policy applies to:
- All Reborn employees, temporary staff and contractors
- All Reborn-controlled sites, warehousing, logistics and field operations
- Product design, manufacturing oversight, deployment, servicing, refurbishment and end-of-life processes
- Key suppliers and service partners where Reborn has influence through purchasing or operational control
3.How We Put This Into Practice
We run environmental management as a practical operating system - not a marketing claim. We will:
- Identify and review key environmental risks in our operations (sites, fleet/visits, waste handling, packaging, materials)
- Build environmental requirements into purchasing, engineering change control, maintenance plans and onboarding
- Keep incident and near-miss reporting routes clear for spills, waste issues, or environmental non-compliances
- Train staff and contractors on relevant procedures (waste, hazardous materials, spill response, site rules)
4.What We Prioritise
A. Carbon & Climate Impact
We will reduce emissions through better energy performance, fewer unnecessary journeys, and smarter logistics.
Actions we take:
- Track emissions drivers relevant to our footprint (electricity use, travel, logistics, key suppliers where feasible)
- Reduce avoidable travel via remote diagnostics, telemetry, and planned preventative maintenance routes
- Prefer lower-emission logistics and consolidated deliveries where practicable
- Consider climate resilience for installations (e.g., coastal corrosion risk, heat, heavy rainfall, exposure)
B. Energy Efficiency
We aim to minimise electricity consumption in our equipment and operations without compromising performance or user experience.
Actions we take:
- Design and configure systems to avoid wasted power (e.g., standby behaviour, efficient components)
- Optimise screens/lighting settings where deployment requirements allow
- Maintain machines so sensors, motors, and compactors operate efficiently over time
- Provide clients with operational guidance to support efficient running
C. Materials, Modularity & Product Life
We build with longevity in mind: repairable, upgradeable, and designed for maximum useful life.
Actions we take:
- Use modular architecture so components can be replaced/upgraded without scrapping whole machines
- Prioritise durable, serviceable parts and reduce unnecessary material use where performance allows
- Maintain spares strategy to extend operating life and reduce downtime-related replacement
- Enable refurbishment and redeployment routes where appropriate and commercially viable
D. Waste & End-of-Life
We apply a "reduce, reuse, recover" approach across our sites, service activity, and equipment end-of-life.
Actions we take:
- Use licensed waste contractors where required and keep waste transfer documentation where applicable
- Separate and manage common waste streams from operations (cardboard, plastics, metals, WEEE, batteries)
- Manage end-of-life equipment through refurbishment, component recovery, and compliant WEEE processing
- Reduce packaging waste in inbound parts and outbound shipments where practical
E. Pollution Prevention & Hazardous Substances
We work to prevent pollution incidents and ensure safe handling of substances used in our operations.
Actions we take:
- Store, handle and dispose of oils, lubricants, cleaning chemicals, batteries and e-waste responsibly
- Maintain spill response readiness at sites where relevant (spill kits, escalation routes)
- Use suitable containment and housekeeping practices to avoid contamination risks
- Follow applicable regulatory requirements for electrical and electronic equipment and chemicals where relevant
F. Water & Local Environmental Protection
We aim to avoid contaminating water resources and to operate responsibly around drainage, cleaning and waste handling.
Actions we take:
- Prevent any discharge of pollutants to drains or watercourses from Reborn operations
- Use controlled cleaning processes where required and dispose of residues appropriately
- Assess installation environments where water ingress, flooding or runoff risks exist and plan mitigations
G. Nature & Local Impact
Where our installations or operations may affect local surroundings, we aim to minimise disturbance and avoid harm.
Actions we take:
- Consider location-specific impacts (e.g., outdoor installations, noise, lighting, footfall, maintenance access)
- Follow site rules and any local environmental constraints set by landlords, councils or retailers
- Avoid practices that could contribute to habitat damage during installation/servicing activities
H. Travel & Field Operations
Our service model should be efficient: fewer trips, better planned routes, first-time fixes where possible.
Actions we take:
- Plan preventative maintenance schedules to reduce emergency call-outs
- Use telemetry and remote triage to resolve issues before dispatching engineers
- Consolidate visits and parts provisioning to improve first-visit fix rates
- Encourage virtual meetings as default for internal and customer comms where appropriate
I. Supplier & Partner Standards
We expect key partners to operate responsibly and support our objectives.
Actions we take:
- Include environmental expectations in supplier onboarding and service partner agreements where appropriate
- Prefer suppliers that can demonstrate responsible practices (materials, waste, energy, compliance)
- Engage critical suppliers on improvements that reduce waste, energy, and packaging impacts
- Review supplier performance where risk or materiality is high
5.Targets & Continuous Improvement
We will set and review practical objectives that match our stage of growth and client requirements. Examples include:
- Reduce service miles per deployed machine through routing optimisation and remote diagnostics
- Increase proportion of parts recovered/reused via refurbishment streams
- Reduce packaging waste in spare parts logistics
- Improve energy performance per machine configuration through settings and component upgrades
6.Monitoring, Reporting & Evidence
We will maintain evidence suitable for retailer and public-sector procurement where required. We may provide (as relevant):
- Deployment and operational performance data (uptime, fault codes, fill levels, service frequency)
- Waste handling documentation for operational waste streams where applicable
- End-of-life handling approach for equipment (WEEE/refurbishment/recovery routes)
- Environmental statements to support tenders and ESG reporting requests
7.Responsibilities
- Executive Team: overall accountability for this policy and resourcing
- Operations Lead / Sustainability Owner: implementation, training, supplier engagement, reporting cadence
- Engineering & Product: design for durability, serviceability, and efficiency
- Field Service & Partners: follow site procedures, waste handling, incident reporting, efficient travel planning
- All Staff: follow environmental procedures and raise concerns or improvement ideas
8.Non-Compliance & Incident Response
Any suspected environmental incident (spill, improper waste handling, significant non-compliance) must be reported immediately via internal channels. We will investigate, correct root causes, and - where required - notify relevant stakeholders/authorities through the appropriate process.
9.Policy Review
This policy is reviewed at least annually and updated where:
- Operations expand to new regions or new product lines
- Regulations or client requirements change materially
- Significant incidents or audit findings require changes
